- Yavuz Sultan Selim denince aklımıza hep kulağı küpeli, palabıyıklı bir resim gelir. Yavuz'a ait olmayan ve daha sonraki bir dönemde yapılmış olan bu resim tarih ders kitaplarında kullanıldığı için herkes Yavuz'u böyle tanır. Hatta kulağındaki küpenin sebebini üzerine de birçok hikaye uydurulmuştur. Türkmenler arasında küpe takmak eski bir gelenekti. Ayrıca bazı tarikatlarda da dervişler dünyadan ve dünyevi nesnelerden soyutlandıklarını göstermek için küpe takarlardı. Bu iki gelenek de Yavuz Sultan Selim'e değil Safevi Devleti'nin kurucusu Şah İsmail'e uymaktadır.
